These guys usually don't appear until the middle of October (in my

garden). Very unusual weather as of late. I added the background in

Photoshop and would like to know if you find it complimentary to the

subject.

the lighting creates dimension and is quite striking. but the background distracts from those dymanics. this flower seems difficult to compose in space. maybe including some of the plants leaves? best to you, bob

Thanks Bob, Reiner, and Michele! I was uncertain about the background myself. I was striving for an Art Deco look. Perhaps just a simple gradient would be better. As far as including the foliage, that would not be possible. This flower only produces leaves in spring. It then dies back completely, leaving nothing above ground, until Autumn when only the flowers emerge. Regards.

I like the background, however, I think it needs to be slightly more subtle and it will work better. There seems to be a white line going down the middle of the lighter area that is proving to be somewhat distracting. I think if you could soften that slightly, it would then look like a light ray and be very effective. The color of the background is complementary to the flower. Beautiful flower - does it blooming now mean an early winter??

Very nice lighting. I think the background definitely works in this photo. I think it gives the entire presentation added dimension - a stage presence.

Thank you Pnina, Martin, Kim, and Jerry. I am not sure what the early bloom means Kim. It is quite unusual. Regards.

The composition is very pleasing to the eye, along with the subject and the color. The streak in the backround looks like a single ray of light, and I like that. Nice job.

I really like the flower and the lighting. Meanwhile, the ray of light seems to come from left (it's narrower in the top) to right while the flower has the light coming from the right. Being so, I would like better the shot without the ray. Just a personal opinion.
