smiffy_smiffy
Adaptor Needed to use Canon FD 50/1,8 lens on Canon eos 10D, but not one with built in optics. Thanks.
John Seaman
The optic is needed because the registration distance (from film plane to lens mount surface) is different for FD and EOS cameras. Without it there is no infinity focus, it will focus only at closer distances. It's the same with Minolta manual focus and AF cameras.
smiffy_smiffy
Cheers John, yes understood that but closer focus only would probably be acceptable ~ it's the brand name of the most reliable adaptor that I'm after 🧐 Edited September 12, 2023 by smiffy_smiffy
smiffy_smiffy
Must add that it all depends on what the closest focus distance would be ...

That depends on two factors: the thickness of the adapter and the focal length of the lens. Thicker adapters reduce the maximum focus distance more than thinner ones. Longer lenses will focus at greater distances than shorter ones. You can get an estimate of the focusing range available by searching online for an extension tube calculator. John Seaman
SRB Photographic is a very well respected UK firm which supplies all kind of adaptors etc - I've been very happy with their products. They have a glassless version here: https://www.srb-photographic.co.uk/canon-fd-lens-to-eos-adaptor---canon-fd-lens-to-canon-eos-camera-adaptor-without-optic-13800-p.asp Edited September 12, 2023 by John Seaman

Heritage Cameras
You're welcome. I've had a look back through our records, and an adapter with no glass and a diaphragm control like the SRB one should allow focusing up to around 1.5m (5 feet) with a 135mm telephoto lens, and 0.25m (11 inches), measured from the film/sensor. Hope this helps.
Heritage Cameras
"...and 0.25m (11 inches)..." should have been "...and 0.25m (11 inches) with a 50mm...", sorry. Edited September 12, 2023 by Heritage Cameras
